UL/CSA standards for North American markets (when required).
The result is an electrical panel that has been designed, documented, tested and certified in accordance with its intended use and the relevant markets.
Areas of application
For manufacturers, end-users, and technical partners.
Manufacturers of machinery and automated production lines (OEMs) who wish to entrust the design and construction of their electrical panels – including the associated documentation and certification – to a specialist partner.
Manufacturing companies and end-users with complex production facilities that require additional electrical panels, or the refurbishment or adaptation of existing electrical panels to meet the needs of new markets.
Electrical installation companies seeking a specialist technical partner to whom they can entrust the design, construction and certification of their electrical panels.
Electrical panel manufacturers and system integrators looking to outsource part of their production while maintaining high quality standards and, where necessary, accessing the expertise required for UL/CSA certification.
General contractors and subcontractors seeking a supplier capable of handling the technical side and documentation of projects relating to complex contracts.
Mode of supply of electrical panels
Motek offers two types of service which can be adapted to the level of involvement required.
Service tailored to the customer’s specifications
Receipt of existing technical documentation (wiring diagram, list of utilities, specifications relating to brands of components, any market requirements).
Testing and validation of the design in relation to the applicable regulations (European and/or North American).
Planning the procurement of components.
Wiring of the electrical panel at the Motek facility.
Functional testing and the issue of the relevant conformity documentation and certification.
Design carried out by Motek
Motek’s technical department prepares the wiring diagram and the bill of materials referring to the list of utilities and the machine documentation.
Sizing of the wiring and components in accordance with the relevant standards and mechanical characteristics (loads, weights, operating conditions).
Design of the internal layout of the electrical panel, leaving some space for future extensions or additions.
Construction, wiring, testing and certification of the finished electrical panel.
In both cases, the wiring is performed while Motek retains responsibility for the compliance of the entire electrical panel. This approach ensures consistency between design, implementation and certification.
CE and UL/CSA certifications
Every automation panel manufactured by Motek is accompanied by the technical documentation required for CE marking, in accordance with:
and, when the panel is part of a machine, Directive 2006/42/CE (Machinery),
with reference to standards EN 60204-1 (electrical equipment of machines) and EN 61439-1/-2 (low-voltage switchgear).
For machines and systems destined for the United States and Canada, Motek is able to:
design electrical panels in accordance with UL 508A and CSA right from the initial stages;
adapt projects originally designed solely for the European market to comply with UL/CSA standards;
adapt components and wiring to ensure full compliance with the requirements of North American regulations;
perform testing and certification in-house, saving the time and effort otherwise spent on working with external facilities, where regulations permit.
The ability to handle design, manufacturing and certification in-house represents a real competitive advantage in the domestic market, particularly for manufacturers that export largely to markets outside the EU.
Components, stock and cross-platform conversions
Motek maintains a technical inventory featuring a wide range of components for industrial automation: PLCs, drives, motion control systems, HMI interfaces, panel PCs and industrial networking devices.
This inventory enables Motek to plan and launch the production of electrical panels quickly, and fulfil even multiple or large orders.
When a project requires specific brands that are not in stock or are not widely available, Motek draws on a network of national and international suppliers that has been established over decades, ensuring rapid delivery of the brands concerned.
Motek's team also possesses the expertise to:
propose equivalent alternatives in terms of technical specifications and regulatory compliance, should a component be unavailable or have been discontinued;
manage guaranteed conversions from the environment of a brand of components to another (for example, from Rockwell to Siemens platforms and vice versa), while maintaining full functional compatibility and regulatory compliance.
Quality control and internal accountability
Each electrical panel is manufactured according to a step-by-step process, whereby each member of staff is responsible for checking and ensuring the compliance of their own work: design, selection of materials, assembly, wiring and testing.
This organization:
drastically reduces the likelihood of errors throughout the production cycle;
ensures full traceability of the process;
simplifies internal audits and follow-up control activities.
In light of the above, Motek assumes responsibility for the functionality and compliance of the finished panel, in accordance with the applicable regulations and the intended use agreed with the customer.
Experience and expertise
In addition to its track record in the design and manufacture of industrial automation machinery, Motek draws on the extensive expertise of its founding partners: thirty years’ experience in the selection, supply and integration of automation components and electrical panels of leading international brands.
This combination of experience enables Motek to combine a systems-based approach with in-depth technical expertise, while maintaining a constant focus on regulatory and documentation requirements for the certification of products intended for the European and North American markets.
Motek acts as your one-stop partner for the design, manufacture and certification of electrical control panels for your machine projects.
